Mrs. Harriet A. Baer, 90, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of Waynesboro, PA passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in the nursing home.

Born November 27, 1934 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Gilson and Olive Mary (Hoover) Baer.

Harriet was a graduate of Washington Township High School with the class of 1954, the last class to graduate from that high school.

She and her husband, the late Kenneth D. Sheffler, were married on December 25, 1954 in Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Sheffler died on December 1, 2013.

In her early life, Harriet worked on her family’s dairy farm. At the age of 15, she worked at Coldspring Park playing music for the roller skaters. Her senior year of high school, she had a job waitressing at the Garden Spot on North Potomac St. She learned to tend bar at the Travel Lodge in Waynesboro and became the first female bartender at the Elks Club in Waynesboro where she retired after 21 years of service on New Year’s Eve at the age of 62. She also tended bar at the Eagles Club, Moose and the Anthony Wayne Hotel.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy A. Wishard and her husband, Denny of Waynesboro and Teresa M. Conklin of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren: Ross Wishard (Abby), Douglas Wishard (Nikki), Tess Conklin (Cory) and Rory Conklin (Andrea); three great-grandchildren, Drew Wishard, Daxton Wishard and Arden Wishard; one sister, Betsy Elaine Blair of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Edward L. Baer, William H. Baer, John Alvin Baer, Esther C. McFerren, Ruth L. Garrett, Mary Belle Walker; and Kenneth H. Baer, who died as an infant.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 23, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA with Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
