George M. Schjodt, 100, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on July 13, 1926 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Yens J. Schjodt of Aarhus, Denmark and Ruth S. (Mower) Schjodt of Chambersburg.
George proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, both in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He also served as a Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) employee in Vietnam. He continued his dedication to the nation through a 25-year career as a weapons inspector at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg and retired from federal service in 1981. A devoted patriot, George was an active member of VFW Post 1599, AMVETS Post 224, American Legion Post 46, and the Marine Corps League, all of Chambersburg.
George loved his family. He is survived by his children, Brenda Thomas (late Jerry) of Chambersburg, Georgia Osborne (late Clyde) of Galeton, PA, Tina Hurst (Richard) of Fort Loudon, PA, Kimberly Zimmerman (late Steve) of Front Royal, VA and stepson Antoine Freche (Susan) of Bristow, VA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Lisa, Marissa, Joe, and Teresa; Kasey, Dakota, and CJ; twins Cody and Cory; and step-grandchildren Connor and twins Garrett and Bryan. His great-grandchildren are Ky, Kora, Darius, Alexa, Michael, Dillon, Nick, Lorelai Rose; Hannah, Maysen, Christian, Brinley and Chloe. His great-great[1]grandchildren are Ari and Amara.
George had a life-long passion for golf and motorcycles. He started playing golf at Caledonia State Park Golf Course when he was 10 years old and started caddying when he was 12. He played his last round when he was 99 years old. He bought his first motorcycle in 1980 and continued to ride with the American Legion Riders Motorcycle Club until he was 96 years old.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki; his first wife, Mazie (Malone); his half-sister, Evelyn Jones; his brother, Yens J. Schjodt, Jr. and his beloved wife, Marthe J. Schjodt.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
