Mr. George Richard Henson, 98, of Maugansville, died Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021, at Doey’s House, Hospice of Washington County, Hagerstown. He was the husband of Levena M. Henson, his loving wife of 62 years who preceded him in death in March, 2005.
Born February 26, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Noah Francis and Bertha Ellen Ripple Henson.
George was self-employed as a painter.
He was a member of Chestnut Grove Church of God, Keedysville.
George was an avid fan and supporter of local softball leagues.
Surviving is his foster son, Gary L. Lum and wife Susan of Maugansville; grandchildren, Jodi M. Blair, and Michael E. Lum and wife Anna; a great-granddaughter, Jadyn A. Blair, as well as nieces and a nephew, Mabel Hammer of Virginia, Ellen Guessford, and Helen and James Scott, all of Hagerstown.
In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by his siblings Viola R. Scott, and Frank, Clarence M., Cleveland, and Leroy S. Henson.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown is assisting the family with arrangements. There will not be calling at the funeral home. A graveside service will be Monday, April 5, 10 AM, at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. Family and friends planning to attend should gather at the lakeside entrance for a procession to the gravesite prior to the services beginning.
