Mr. George Carl Gibney, 90, Twin Oaks Assisted Living, Williamsport, and formerly of 947 West Washington Street, Hagerstown, where he lived for 85 years, died Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Twin Oaks Assisted Living.
Born July 8, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Elmer Carl and Edith Mary Baker Gibney. He graduated Hagerstown Senior High School in 1941; and served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in 1985, with 44 years of service.
Mr. Gibney was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church; and the American Legion, Morris Frock Post #42, Hagerstown.
He enjoyed hiking (having hiked the length of the C&O Canal five times), fishing, and Country Music; and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends living from New York to Georgia. He will be especially missed by cousin Ann Ringer and her German Shepherd, Uschi.
Mr. Gibney was preceded in death by siblings M. Jeannette Mowen and Paul Gibney.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 16, at 11:00 AM, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown. His pastor, Rev. Jerry L. Lowans will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
