Mr. Gary Lynn Rogers, 72, of Hagerstown, died Monday afternoon, August 13, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born May 3, 1946, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Peter and Jane Doretta Clelland Rogers. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, Villanova and Temple Unversities, both of Philadelphia, and Frostburg University; and attended graduate school at West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was a Graduate Education Professor with West Virginia University, Morgantown.
Gary was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
He was also a member of Pangborn Council 1365, Knight of Columbus, Hagerstown. He was an Orioles fan who enjoyed attending games; and loved listening to jazz at Blues Alley Night Club, Georgetown, Washington, DC.
Gary will be remembered by friends, Glenn C. and Martha Sue Smith of Williamsport, Alice M. and Michael E. Smith; and musical friend, John Hunt.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy Jane Rogers Shockley and James Shockley.
Friends may call at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, Monday, August 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 21, 11:00 AM, at his church, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown. The Rev. John J. Jicha will celebrate the mass. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
