Mr. Frederick J. Arena, 71, of Mont Alto, PA passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, in the York Hospital.

Born September 28, 1952 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John and Toini (Oksanen) Arena.

Fred graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School, Hyattsville, MD, with the Class of 1971.

He and his wife of over 43 years, Debra J. (White) Arena, were married on March 6, 1981 in Silver Spring, MD.

Fred started his career working at AT&T “Ma Bell” for ten years. He then worked for Singer-Link making wire harnesses for nuclear power plant control room simulators. After that Fred worked at two to three different companies doing electrical assembly, the most recent being at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA for several years. Following his retirement, he was a part-time school van driver for Rolling Hill Transit, Fayetteville, PA.

He was a member of Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro and the Knights of Columbus.

Fred enjoyed tinkering and built numerous detailed models by hand. He also loved animals.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Diane E. Arena-Knight (Jeff Koster) of Gettysburg, PA and Rev. Steven J. Arena of Steelton, PA; and one sister, Marietta D. Young (Christopher) of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jonathan M. Knight.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 11, 2024 in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro with his son, Rev. Steven J. Arena and Rev. Christopher Onyeneke, MSSCC officiating. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:30 P.M.
