Dr. Frederick Denton Dove Jr., 93, of 16505 Virginia Ave., Williamsport, died Friday night, Sept. 20, 2013, at Homewood at Williamsport. He was the husband of Mrs. Louise Wampler Dove, his wife of 70 years, whom he married Dec. 28, 1943.
Born July 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Dr. Frederick Denton Dove Sr. and Alice Brumbaugh Dove.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Dr. Dove graduated from Bridgewater College and obtained his medical degree in 1944 from the University of Pennsylvania.
He retired in 1986, practicing 42 years as an obstetrician and gynecologist, and serving as chief of staff at Washington County Hospital.
Dr. Dove was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
He was also a member of the Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs, all of Hagerstown. He was a life trustee of Bridgewater College nd the recipient of the college’s Outstanding Service Award.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Patricia Dove Beahm of Birchrunville, Pa., Frederick D. Dove III, of Fairfax, Va., David Alan Dove of Mercersburg, and Teresa Dove Paisley of Collegeville, Pa.; his grandchildren, Erica A. Amrhein of South Riding, Va., Dr. Cara L. Beahm of Philadelphia, Pa., and Samantha Paisley of Collegeville; as well as his great-granddaughter, Taylor N. Amrhein; and sister, Barbara Gosnell of Murfreesboro, N.C.
The funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward L. Polling will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
