Mr. Frederick A. “Fred” Reed, Jr., 87, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026, in White Oak Medical Center, Silver Spring, MD.
Born December 20, 1938, in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Frederick A. Reed, Sr., and Marie (Hofmann) Reed.
He graduated from Bladensburg High School, Bladensburg, MD, with the class of 1956.
He and his wife, the late Sara A. (Hendricks) Reed were married June 16, 1959. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage together before Mrs. Reed passed away June 26, 2017.
Mr. Reed worked at the University of Maryland, where he performed maintenance for the dining services for 33 years.
He was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church in Hagerstown, MD, where he helped with several building projects in the church. He also enjoyed completing handyman projects for family and friends.
Mr. Reed is survived by his children, Beth Reed and her partner Calla Neil, Frederick A. Reed III and his wife Kimberly (Hennessy) Reed; grandchildren Amanda Nicole and Noah Allen Reed; his siblings, Charles Reed, Robert Reed and his wife Linda, George Reed, Cathey (Reed) Wright and Susan (Reed) Copenhaver and her husband Bob.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
A viewing will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M.in the Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Ron Faith officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens & Mausoleum, 3218 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA.
The family will return to the Evangel Baptist Church, Hagerstown for a fellowship meal afterwards.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
