Mr. Franklin B. “Frank” Carbaugh, 89, of Hagerstown, died Monday, October 22, 2012 at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown. He was the husband of the late Veda A. Poole Carbaugh who died February 12, 1994.
Born October 14, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Frank Edgar and ClaraViola Beckley Carbaugh.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater with the 745the Tank Bn with the First Army.
Mr. Carbaugh was employed for 46 years with Fairchild Aircraft, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post #42, American Legion, Amvets Post #10, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #694, Ralph S. Tagg, Jr. Chapter 14 of Disabled American Veterans, the 16th Infantry Regiment of Fort Washington, Maryland and 745th Tank Bn Association of Chicago.
Frank is survived by a sister, Frances M. Shuman of North Carolina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Walter E., David C., I. Scott and Ralph W. Carbaugh, Edith V. Weaver, Margaret K. Izer, Ruth N. Newkirk, and Helen M. Reedy.
The funeral service will be Friday, October 26, 10:30 AM, at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, with honors offered by Amvets Post # 10, and Marine Corp League of Hagerstown. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
