Evelyn M. (Yeates) Keller, age 97, of Greencastle, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born on November 21, 1927, in Hagerstown, MD, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Chester L. and Margaret (Clapsaddle) Yeates.
On December 5, 1947, she married the love of her life, Haven Eugene Keller, in Miami, FL. They shared 69 beautiful years of marriage before Haven’s passing on March 8, 2017.
Evelyn worked for several years at the Maryland Ribbon Company, and later at Martin’s Grocery Store, where she served in various roles until her retirement. She and Haven spent their golden years wintering in Florida, a time she cherished deeply. Evelyn took great pride in her garden and found joy in planting and caring for the flowers that brightened her yard.
Family was always at the center of Evelyn’s life. When her children were young, she was actively involved in their lives—teaching Sunday school and leading a Girl Scout troop. She and Haven enjoyed square dancing together and were devoted members of their church and community. A longtime member of Hagerstown Bible Church, and previously of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, Evelyn supported her husband faithfully in his various church committee roles. The couple was also very involved with the local Senior Center and spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels—continuing well into their late 80s. Evelyn even supported Haven’s beekeeping hobby, despite being allergic to bee stings.
Growing up during the Great Depression shaped Evelyn into a resourceful and independent woman. She was known for her strong spirit, frugal nature, and a feisty determination that stayed with her throughout life.
Evelyn is survived by her three children: Teresa Marie Kropka and husband Richard “Rick” of Hagerstown, Haven “Lynn” Keller and wife Trudy of Hagerstown and Trudy Ann Smith and husband Mark of Greencastle; six grandchildren: Erica Ritter, Lydia Dugger, Nathan Keller, Andrea McCauley, Joshua Smith, and Jessica Fortier and was known as “GG” to her twelve great-grandchildren that survive her. She also had several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amy Dunne; three sisters: Elizabeth Cline, Ruth “Arlene” Collitt, and Yvonne Yeates; and two brothers: John Yeates and Henry “Lee” Yeates.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, PA, with Pastor Dale Carver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at The Blue Heron, 407 S. Washington St., Greencastle. Burial will take place at Welsh Run Brethren Church Cemetery, Mercersburg, PA, at 2:00 P.M.
