It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mother, Evelyn Elizabeth (Werking) Zimmerman, age 93, at her daughter’s home in Fayetteville, PA (formerly of Frederick, MD) on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Born August 23, 1932, in Lovettsville, VA. She was the daughter of the late Ward Werking and Ella Elizabeth (Rollison) Werking. Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Samuel Grafton Zimmerman Jr. (Bow) and her husband of 52 years, Samuel Grafton Zimmerman, Sr. She was of the Lutheran Faith.

Evelyn was the last remaining of numerous siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Bowen (Carl) and Bonnie Zimmerman Lear; grandchildren Elizabeth Zimmerman Benitez, Cassie Reniers (James), and Laura Krietz (Charles); and great-grandchildren, Brandon Benitez, Ella and Elijah Reniers, and Ethan and Emma Krietz. She will be greatly missed by all, including friends Al and Jeanie McCracken.

Evelyn and Sam were married in 1949. Together they operated a dairy farm where they grew crops, milked cows, and raised their children. In their later years, they retired from farming, and moved, due to Sam’s declining health. They opened an antique shop, Zimmerman’s Antique Barn. They traveled and collected items for their shop, meeting many new friends along the way.

Evelyn volunteered for Frederick County 4-H at the Great Frederick Fair, judging baked goods and youth projects. She prepared wonderful meals for her family and will be remembered as a great cook. Evelyn also enjoyed sewing and crafting. What made Evelyn truly happy was spending time with her family. She loved attending her great-grandson’s lacrosse games and her granddaughter’s dance recitals. Evelyn loved vacationing in Ocean City, MD and Massanutten, VA and traveling to Wyoming.

If you would like to make a donation in her honor, the family asks that memorial donations be made to support Frederick County 4-H, as she was avid supporter for many years. Checks can be addressed to University of Maryland and sent to 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD 21702.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick, MD, with Chaplain Tim Brown officiating. Flowers can be ordered by calling Eichholz Flowers at 717-762-7131.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, PA, is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed online at www.bowersoxfuneralhomes.com.
