Elizabeth Smith George, 88, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025 surrounded by love. A devoted member of her many communities and a woman of faith, Liz lived a life defined by compassion, advocacy, and a commitment to helping others.

She was born in Watertown, NY and raised in Mechanicsburg, PA. With a passion for service, Liz studied in New York City before setting out on career in nursing. She dedicated many years to working with Women Infants and Children (WIC), where she touched countless lives through her care and expertise. Liz’s volunteerism extended far, and her family is especially proud of her advocacy work for individuals with learning disabilities—a cause close to her heart as the mother of her beloved daughter Jenny.

Liz was a faithful and active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, where her church family became an extension of her own. Her faith was the foundation of her generous spirit and guided her through life’s joys and sorrows.

She enjoyed the arts and the symphony, found comfort in good books, and treasured her special circle of family and friends. Her most precious moments were spent at the family cottage in Chaumont, NY, where generations gathered to create memories filled with laughter, love, and the simple beauty of being together at the lake.

She was preceded in death by her brother James, her husband William, her daughter Jenny, and her great-granddaughter Reagan. She is survived by her daughters Barrie George Riese (Mike) and Katie George Gaulding (Dane), eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of love, service, and grace.

Her family and friends will forever remember her strength, her generous spirit, and the countless ways she made the world a better place.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 25, 2025, in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 112 E. 2nd Street Waynesboro, PA with Rev. Rob Boulter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 112 East 2nd St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is handling the arrangements.
