Mrs. Elaine Mae (Moser) Reed, 92, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Chambersburg Hospital after a short illness.

Born March 28, 1932 in Rouzerville, PA, she is the daughter of the late Earl W. and Charlotte E. (Recard) Moser. She graduated from the Washington Township High School with the class of 1950.

She married Charles A. Reed March 12, 1955 in Hagerstown, MD. They made their home in Mont Alto in 1963. Charles passed away November 2, 2002, after 47 years of marriage.

In her early life, Elaine worked for Haase Motors, Waynesboro, as a secretary and bookkeeper; Arthur’s Dairy, Waynesboro; Miller’s Furniture, Waynesboro; Emmert’s Manufacturing, Waynesboro; and the Shoe Factory in Mont Alto. She later worked part time for Nichols Department Store, Chambersburg and Bata Shoes, Waynesboro as a clerk. Her last place of employment was with Kmart Department Store in Waynesboro.

She was a member of Mont Alto United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer for a number of years, as chairperson for the church candy-making committee, and as a member of the administrative board.

A lady with a giving heart, Elaine did volunteer work as a driver for the Franklin County Meals on Wheels for a number of years.  At her church, Elaine was an avid supporter of the Blessing Box by providing monthly food supplies and also an enthusiastic advocate of the Operation Christmas Child shoebox effort as she was always keeping an eye out for “bargains” to add to the packing inventory.

Elaine is well remembered in Mont Alto for her baking and candy-making skills. Her specialty was baking hundreds of rolled sugar cookies each year in the shapes of pumpkins, “black” cats, and witches for distribution during the borough’s trick or treating night.

A few of her favorite activities were going to the Milky Way for a cheeseburger basket and a strawberry sundae, late night runs to get some donuts at Krumpes in Hagerstown and attending the various events involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Jeffrey A. Reed and his wife Mary Kaye of Smithsburg, MD and Kimberly K. Reed of Waynesboro, PA; two grandchildren, Emily Render and her husband Peter of Salisbury, MD and Joseph Reed and his wife Kimberly of Boonsboro, MD; seven great-grandchildren, Charlie, Hosea, Miles, Wes, Whit, Gena, and Susie; a brother, Ronald G. Moser; two sisters-in-law, Betty S. Reed and Lucrecia Moser; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Paul Reed and her brothers, Earl R. Moser, Donald W. Moser, Gerald L. Moser and Paul G. Moser.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Mont Alto United Methodist Church, 10 S. Main St, Mont Alto with Pastor Loretta McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Mount Zion Road, Quincy Township.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Saturday morning, in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mont Alto United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 339, Mont Alto, PA. 17237.
