Edward P. “Ed” Hykes, 77, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his home. Born May 28, 1947, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Isabel Gilbert Hykes.

Ed served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed for 41 years as a truck driver for Lehman’s Egg Service until his retirement. During his retirement he still drove part-time for several different carriers. Ed loved and dedicated himself to his wife and family. He was an avid Penn State and Philadelphia sports fan and loved watching the Eagles, Flyers, Phillies and 76ers. He also enjoyed golfing and doing crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnne L. McDannell Hykes, whom he married on April 16, 1966; three children, Angie Oller (fiancé Doug Breon) of Shippensburg, Wayde Hykes of Chambersburg, and Brad Hykes (wife Melody) of Chambersburg; eleven grandchildren, Amber VanWhy (Heath), Laken Cole (Austin), Zachary Miley (Jessica), Jordan Hykes, Devyn Hykes (Arianna), Allyson Lehman (Benjamin), Mandy Cleary (Corey), Jennifer Lundy (Jeremy), Levi Hornbaker (Brenna), Gabrielle McLaughlin, and Stone Hykes (Natalie); 23 great grandchildren; two nephews, John Gilbert of Pond Bank, and Robert Carbaugh of Chambersburg; and his cousin, Rose Ewan of Chambersburg; 5 sisters-in-law, Brenda Seaman, Teresa Carbaugh (Frank), Lori Renfrew (Greg), Marcia Feldman (Jeff), and Kristi Yeingst (Jim); two brothers-in-law, Ken McDannell (Marcia), and Troy McDannell. Aside from his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be shared at geiselfuneralhome.com.
