Douglas A. “Coach” Lawson, 76, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Paramount Senior Living in Fayetteville, PA.
He was born on August 14, 1948, in Binghamton, NY to the late Orville D. and Jeannette (Cline) Lawson.
Douglas attended North High and Broomtech Technical Institute in Binghamton, NY. He also received his Bachelor’s Degree in education from Baptist Bible College in Scranton, PA. He then went on to teach and coach at Cumberland Valley Christian School for over 30 years. He loved coaching soccer and basketball. After retiring, Douglas continued to mentor as a youth advocate and volunteer at Thomas Road Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja (Carey) Lawson of Chambersburg, PA whom he married on June 20, 1975; sons Nathan Lawson and his wife Elisabeth of Chambersburg, PA, Benjamin Lawson and his wife Cassy of Chambersburg, PA, and ITC Joshua Lawson of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren David Lawson, Envee Lawson, Sephy Lawson, and Sharian Lawson; sister Barbara Campbell of Forest, VA; and niece Christy Campbell of Woodbridge, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at The Open Door Church, 600 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201, with Rev. Carl McKee officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at the church.
