Mrs. Dorothy Q. (Quier) Wetherald, 96, a resident of Menno Haven Retirement Community, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Waynesboro, PA passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the retirement community.

Born October 2, 1927 in Lower Saucon Township, PA she was the daughter of the late Mae (Kunsman) Quier. She lived her early life in the Hellertown, PA area.

She graduated from Hellertown High School with the class of 1945. She later received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from East Strausburg State Teachers College in 1948 and her Masters Degree in Education from Lehigh College.

Mrs. Wetherald taught school for over 30 years. Prior to her retirement in 1989, she taught 1st grade at Hooverville Elementary School.

She was a member of the Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, Waynesboro and Retired Franklin County School Employees.

She is survived by four sons, S. Edward “Ned” Wetherald, wife Karen Neff of Bellefonte, PA, Timothy A. Wetherald, wife Laura of Elliott City, MD, Scot A. Wetherald of Parkville, MD, Jay D. Wetherald, wife Susie of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, S. Edward Wetherald; one grandson, Noah C. Wetherald, who died September 17, 2013; and her siblings, Russell H. Quier, Ruth M. Ferguson and Leon C. Quier.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 31, 2024 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Rev. Mark Ruzicka officiating. Burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, Friday morning, in the funeral home.
