Dorothy Louise Talhelm, age 91, of Williamsport, MD, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD. She was a resident at Hilltop Assisted Living, Homewood Living, Williamsport, MD, since 2024, and formerly of Molly Pitcher Hwy., Chambersburg, PA. Born in Waynesboro, PA on February 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Milton Earl Daugherty and Mary Esther Hykes Daugherty.
Mrs. Talhelm was a 1951 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School. Mrs. Talhem retired from the former Citizens National Bank, Greencastle, PA, where she began her career as secretary to the president in 1951, and progressed up to vice-president in 1996. She worked for a total of over 49 years, before retiring. Mrs. Talhelm was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greencastle, PA and served as treasurer for a number of years. She will be remembered as a collector of anything pertaining to strawberries. She enjoyed reading novels, working on suduko puzzles, and in earlier years, creating count cross stitch pictures. She was also an organist for many years, at area churches.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Welling (husband, Walter) of Boonsboro, MD and eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Talhelm on March 15, 2013, whom she married on May 1, 1966, and brother, Melvin “Doc” Daugherty.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 11 AM in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Carl McKee will officiate. In accordance with her wishes, there will not be a public viewing. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
