Doris E. Lake, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully at the Fahrney-Keedy Home on Monday morning, January 6, 2020. She was the loving wife of John “Jack” E. Lake, her husband, for more than 63 years.
She lived a full life and was loved by all who knew her.
Born on November 18, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late David L. Schneibel and Dorothy A. Zimmerman Schneibel Emberg. She attended college at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (now Biola University) and later graduated from nursing school. She and Jack moved their family to Hagerstown in 1974 and became very active members of Hagerstown Bible Church.
A strong believer in Christ, Doris devoted her life to sharing her faith with others by teaching Child Evangelism Fellowship’s Good News Clubs, Children’s Church and Sunday School classes throughout most of her adult life. Together with her husband, Doris owned and operated Keyboard Decals and, later, Lake Specialties and Laminating for 45 years.
Besides her husband, Doris is also survived by five daughters, Debbie Kohl and husband Michael, Judy Keene and husband Scott, Linda Small and husband Tim, Patty Keene and husband James, and Barbara Heinlein and husband Bruce; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Harrison. The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements for the family. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 9, at her church, Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, beginning at 10:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM. The Reverends Tim Small and Dale Carver will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
