Mr. Dennis W. Monn, 82, of Mont Alto, PA passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 in Chambersburg Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 13, 1942, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Woodrow W. Hilda (Poper) Monn.
Mr. Monn was a graduate of Quincy High School with the class of 1960.
He served in the U.S. Navy in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He and his wife, the late Nancy Jean (Creager) Monn, were married July 5, 1964. They were together for 53 years when Mrs. Monn passed away April 15, 2018.
Dennis was employed at Letterkenny Fire Department, serving as assistant chief and acting chief for a time before retiring in 1992. After retiring from the fire department, he worked part time for Franklin County. In 1998, he became the Emergency Management Coordinator for Franklin County until he retired from that job in 2002.
He was a life member of Mont Alto Fire Department, where he served as chief for 8 years and volunteered a lot of his time. He was also a member of multiple additional fire departments in the area, the Eagles Club, Inc., Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post #695 and the Blue Ridge Sportsman’s Association. He also is a former President of the Mont Alto Borough Council.
Mr. Monn loved spending time on the Potomac River, where he and his wife had a lot for many years, but his real joy was being “Pap” or “Pappy” to his grandchildren! They went where he went and he went where they went! He loved camping, going to the beach, watching nascar and attending as many races as they could. One of his biggest joys was helping in the kitchen at the Mont Alto Carnival every year.
He is survived by a daughter, Deidria “Dee Dee” Monn Davies of Mont Alto; his granddaughter, Kelsey A. Gardner and her husband, William “Bill”; two sisters, Connie Funk and Linda Finney and her husband, George, all of Mont Alto; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson Taylor M. Davies.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 28, 2024 in the Mont Alto Fire Hall, 517 S. Main St., Mont Alto, PA. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Saturday morning, in the fire hall.
