Mr. Daniel Thurman Shoop, 44, of Hagerstown, fondly known by many as “Danny”, died Saturday morning, July 8, 2023, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

 

Born January 1, 1979, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he was a son of Mr. Thurman Adolf “Sonny” Shoop, Jr., of Clear Spring, and Mrs. Darlene Messner Shoop Stoner of Greencastle, Pennsylvania.

 

Danny attended Clear Spring High School.  He was employed as a security officer with the Valley and Frederick Towne Malls, Hagerstown and Frederick respectively.

 

While Danny was rather quiet and private, he had a vast array of interests.  He immensely enjoyed car racing; both Sprint and Nascar.  He also enjoyed many sports including wresting and football and attended concerts ranging from Classic Rock to Heavy Metal.

 

Additionally, Danny had been a member of Long Meadow Volunteer Fire Company, Station 27, Hagerstown and Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department, Engine 10 Squad. Funkstown.

 

Besides his parents, Danny is survived by siblings Lisa Sweitzer and husband Darin of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and Allen Butts of Falling Waters, West Virginia; his step-father Glen Stoner of Greencastle; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Danny was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Thurman A., Sr., and Carrie Shoop; and maternal grandparents William F. and Violet Messner.

 

The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Thursday, July 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday, July 14, beginning at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Frederick M. Keener officiating.  Inurnment will be private and at the family’s convenience with his “Pappy”, Thurman Shoop, Sr., at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions to his family are requested by the family.
