D. Elaine “Lanie" Simpson, 87, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Paramount Senior Living. Born October 10, 1936 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Pvt. Ralph A. Landis who passed away in Iwo Jima during World War II and Irene E. Clugston Landis.
Lanie was a graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and attended Wilson College. She was employed as a sales clerk at Peoples Drug Store for over 20 years and then worked in admissions and the volunteer office at the Chambersburg Hospital for four and a half years. Lanie was a member of the Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League Auxiliary in Chambersburg and the Abundant Life Chapel in Chambersburg.
The last of her immediate family, Lanie is survived by her beloved Goddaughter, Tracy Hershey, her husband Donald; their sons, Austin and his wife Kat and Brandon; Tracy’s brothers, Tim Ebersole and his wife Missy and Mike Ebersole and his wife Jess; the Myers family as well as her surviving cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 8, 2024 in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 Thomas and Sharon Defenderfer of Abundant Life Chapel will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Salem Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service Thursday morning in the funeral home.
