Mrs. Constance “Connie” Ruth (Henthorn) McCabe, 89, of Menno Haven Senior Living Community, Chambersburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Chambers Pointe Health Care Center.
Born October 15, 1936, in Pensacola, FL, she was the daughter of the late John Reus and Mildred (Jarboe) Henthorn.
Connie graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California, with the Class of 1954 and went on to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville.
On January 15, 1955, she married the love of her life, George Evans McCabe, Jr., in Folkston, Georgia, beginning a marriage marked by devotion, adventure, and shared purpose.
Above all, Connie was a devoted homemaker whose care and steady presence shaped the lives of her family. Her giving spirit extended well beyond her home. She served as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered on the Junior Board at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland, and tutored students while living in Nassau, Bahamas. For approximately ten years, she also served as secretary for the U.S.S. Centaurus (AKA-17), faithfully composing and sending monthly newsletters to U.S. Coast Guard Maru Crew shipmates, helping keep connections strong across the miles.
Connie and her husband’s life together took them to many places, including Salisbury, Maryland, the Bahamas, and even China, following his work in the poultry industry. Wherever she lived, she created a warm and welcoming home. She enjoyed sailing, tennis, golf, traveling, needlework, and sewing. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she participated in the Carol Quinn Memorial Bible Study in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After moving to the Chambersburg area in 2020, she became a member of Salem Church in Waynesboro.
Connie was lively, compassionate, and deeply devoted to those she loved. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother. She held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren in Costa Rica, faithfully sending them cards, gifts, and reminders of her love, always thinking of them and keeping them close despite the distance.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by two daughters, Stephanie J. Hosid and her husband, Harvey, of Southport, NC, and Michelle M. Lushbaugh and her husband, David, of Waynesboro, PA; a daughter-in-law, Sianny McCabe Hernandez of Costa Rica; six grandchildren, Laura Beth Davenport, Alexander McCabe, Gonzalo McCabe, Landa McCabe, Nahomy McCabe, and Imperio McCabe; two great-grandchildren, Gia McCabe and Evan McCabe; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, George Evans McCabe, III, and a brother, John R. Henthorn, Jr.
A celebration of Connie’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Salem Church, 4881 Salem Church Road, Waynesboro, PA, with Pastor Brent Mangus officiating. Connie will be interred in the columbarium at the church.
