Dr. Clovis M. Snyder, 90, a local allergist who served our community for over 30 years, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2020, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Janet Snyder, his wife of 64 years.
Born May 7, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Judge Harry E. and Vera M. Snively Snyder.
Dr. Snyder graduated from Hagerstown High School, Washington & Lee University, and University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his internship at University of Maryland Hospital; and residencies for internal medicine with Fort Howard (MD) Veterans Hospital and allergy and immunology with University of Pittsburgh Hospital.
He was a captain in the United States Army Medical Corp serving in Paris, France, at the 196th station hospital.
Dr. Snyder was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, Williamsport.
Additionally, he was a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Pennsylvania Allergy Association, and Greater Washington Allergy Society; as well as a Fellow of the American College of Allergists; and certified by the Board of Allergy and Immunology. He was also a member of Friendship Lodge #84, AF & AM; The Scottish Rite; and Ali Ghan Temple.
Dr. Snyder was a man of many interests. He never stopped learning. When he was interested in a topic, his research was extensive. He enjoyed classical music and was readily able to identify a title and composer by hearing just a bit of the music. He was an avid photographer; and had passions for genealogy, antiques, electronics, and for his dog and grand-dogs. The pride and joys of his life were his grandsons.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Snyder is survived by his children, Bruce Snyder and fiancé Athena Shaffer-Brown, and Karen Dillard and husband Scott; grandsons William Snyder, and Brandon and Tyler Dillard; and former daughter-in-law Gail Snyder.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Stuart Snyder.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. There will not be visiting at the funeral home. The service will be graveside Tuesday, October 6, 11:00 AM, at Boonsboro Cemetery, 64 South Main Street, Boonsboro, with his pastor, Rev. Mark A. Sandell, officiating.
