Mrs. Charlotte Ruth (French) Engle, 88, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026 in Mercy House, Chambersburg, PA, surrounded by her family.
Born June 10, 1937 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Cooper) French. She attended Baltimore City schools, later receiving her GED along side her daughter in 1982.
Mrs. Engle was a dedicated employee at Regency Thermographs where she worked for more than 25 years and later at Penn National Golf Course and Community where she was employed from 1997 until retirement in 2018.
She was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro. A talented writer, she wrote numerous poems for her family and also had a song copywrited on vinyl. She enjoyed dancing and doing crafts of many kinds, especially crocheting and making miniature books to be displayed in doll houses.
Mrs. Engle is survived by seven children: Ed Reely and his wife, Lorna and Michael Reely, both of Waynesboro, Shirley Cook and her husband, Bob and Karen Kendall and her husband, George, both of Mont Alto, Rick Reely and his wife, Louise of Akron, PA, Brenda Houck and her companion, Corby Hippensteel of Waynesboro and Mary John and her husband, Donald of Shippensburg, PA; 14 grandchildren: Stacy, Autumn, David, Josh, Shawn, Heather, Bobby, Jess, Dustin, Renee, Emerald, Caleb, Tiff and JJ; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Reely who passed away in 1965; son Harrison “Pete” Engle who passed away January 4, 2026; and siblings, Mary Chamberlin, Dorothy Dorsh, Charles French and Margaret Hayes.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, March 9, 2026 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro where a service to honor her life will begin at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor John Pogue officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
