Charles A. “Sam” Burcker, Jr., 69, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.

Born July 16, 1955, in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Charles A. Burcker, Sr., and the late Shirley (Byers) Ketterman.

He married his beloved wife, “Kay” (Hornbaker) Burcker on February 13, 1973, in Hagerstown, MD.

A loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, nephew and friend; Sam will be remembered as a family man. His family meant the world to him, especially his grandchildren. Nothing warmed his heart more than playfully teasing his granddaughter any chance he could! He was a dedicated provider, working tirelessly as a self-employed well driller for two decades. He found joy in the simple things in life: relaxing on his porch while watching the birds (he especially liked the cardinals), listening to his Motown oldies; engaging in conversations, particularly about politics (He was proud to be a Trump supporter!) and trips to the Outer Banks with friends and family!

In addition to his wife, Kay, he leaves behind to celebrate his memory: one son, Kirk Burcker and his companion, Candy Weaver of Greencastle, one daughter, Kimberly Buchanan and her husband, Denro of Greencastle, a granddaughter, Kailee Burcker of Greencastle, a sister, Glenda Bricker of Chambersburg, PA, a brother, Ronald Burcker of Greencastle, a very special aunt, Betty Freshman of Greencastle and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Kendle Burcker and Jordan Kay Buchanan, a great-grandson, Keenen Buchanan, a sister, Sherry McJunkin, a brother, Kevin Burcker and his great grandmother, Fannie Burker.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 2, 2024, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 South Washington St. Greencastle, with Pastor Bob Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the funeral home. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.bowersoxfuneralhomes.com.
