Mr. Charles A.L. Grunden, 80, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg, PA.

Born March 29, 1945, in York, PA, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Beulah M. (Landis) Grunden. He graduated from York Central High School, York, PA, with the class of 1963 and York College, York, PA with the class of 1965 with an associate’s degree in accounting.

After graduation, Charles enlisted in the Army, where he spent 20 years supporting the White House Communications Agency at Camp David before retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1986. During his assignment at Camp David he traveled the world extensively providing communications for Presidential and Vice-Presidential trips.

He married Joy Spurling on October 1, 1998, in Hagerstown, MD. He enjoyed spending time with family, researching civil war history, carpentry, woodworking, golfing, lawn care and holiday meals.

Left behind to celebrate his memory are his three children: Kyle Grunden, Dillsburg, PA; Corinda Giberson and her husband Gregory of McSherrystown, PA and Kery Grunden and his wife Susan of Biglerville, PA; stepdaughter Christine Kelliher of Farmington, New York; three grandchildren: Caroline, Gavin and Gwendolyn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Grunden; three brothers, Ralph E. Grunden, Benjamin F. Grunden and Barry L. Brownwell and two sisters, Alma M. Orwig and Nada V. Skiffington.

Military honors provide by Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, will be performed promptly at 2:00PM followed by the family receiving friends until 4:00 P.M., on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle.
