Mrs. Charla Y. (Toney) Owens, 75, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Monday, June 24, 2024, at Mercy House, Chambersburg, PA.
Born November 1, 1948 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Charles Toney and Nellie (Waltz) Hill. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
She was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.
Charla worked as a dietician at the South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, PA. She retired after more than 27 years of service.
She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Waynesboro and enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, William C. Owens; two daughters, Dionne Y. Owens of Waynesboro and Shavonne D. Hockensmith (Mike) of Camp Hill, PA; her nephew and niece whom she raised, Bruce S. Toney and Marissa L. Toney, both of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Brokklynn K. Owens, Malik X. Adams and Shaneise Y. Adams; and several additional nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Dolores Gonzales, Mary Ellen Hill, and Linda Toney; and one brother, Michael R. Hill, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 30 W. King Street, Waynesboro with Rev. James C. Simmons officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the church.
