Clarence Dwight “Dwight,” “Whitey,” or “Low Side” Heintzelman was born June 4, 1944, at Waynesboro Hospital. He was raised in Quincy, Pennsylvania, and went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2026, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was the son of C. Merle and Violet Nead Heintzelman.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 40 years, Judy; and his beloved dog, Sam and his brother, Danny Nead, and his wife Donna. He is survived by his sister, Ginny Martin, and her husband, Galen; his son, Darin, and his wife, Julie; Darin’s mother, Susie Misner; Judy’s son, TR DeWitt, and his wife, Sheila; and his three grandsons, Devin and wife Lakiesha, Joseph and wife Shania, and Adam and girlfriend Lindsay. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Atlas, Clairē, Broderick, Oliver, and Oaklyn. Dwight is also survived by his companion and caregiver of the past four and a half years, Debra Rawlings, as well as his beloved dog, Edge, and two cats, Samantha and Sadie.
Dwight lived a full and remarkable life. He graduated from Quincy High school, Flight school from Henson Aviation, Inc and The Pennsylvania State University with a BA degree. He started his trade at Landis Tool Company in Waynesboro, PA where he was a machinist, in sales, and a pilot. He also worked as a supervisor for Mack Trucks (Volvo), served as a tank commander in the Army, and was a firefighter in Quincy, PA. He was a longtime member of the Waynesboro Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf, and was also a member of Quincy Methodist Church in Pennsylvania. Dwight loved to sing and was blessed with a beautiful baritone voice. For many years, Dwight and his wife, Judy, owned and operated the Keystone Country Kitchen in Waynesboro, PA. He was also a faithful member of American Legion Post 42, where he served on both the Executive Committee and House Committee and was a member for an incredible 47 years.
Dwight will be deeply missed by so many. Most of all, we will miss those big blue eyes, his wonderful hugs, and the love he gave so freely. Dwight will be cremated at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro, PA, and will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Judy, at Quincy Cemetery in Quincy, PA. His burial will be private, with an American Legion Color Guard present.
Family and friends are invited to gather Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Dwight and Deb’s residence, (call deb for address) Hagerstown, MD from 11:00am to 3:00pm. A celebration of life service will be held at the American Legion Post 42, 405 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD on Sunday, August 23 at 3:00-5:00pm. Pastor Erroll Thompson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Legion Post 42, 405 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD.
