Mrs. Beatice Joan “JoAnn” Renner Babington, 82, of Hagerstown, died early Monday, August 26, at Doey’s Hospice House, Hagerstown.  She was the wife of Mr. Grayson R. Babington, her husband of 61 years.

Born January 16, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Albert Herman and Irene Rebecca Provard Renner.  She was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

JoAnn was employed with Legalon Clothing as a cutter; had served as bookkeeper for businessman, the late Charles L. Pitzer; and was a former bookkeeper and secretary for Cedar Lawn Memorial Park; all of Hagerstown.

She was of the Protestant Faith.

JoAnn was a devoted and lifelong member of Community Rescue Service (CRS) serving from 1957 until 1982, volunteering as an EMT.

Surviving, besides her husband, are siblings Mary Catherine Brashears and Ronald Eugene Renner.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father Carl E. Brumage; and brother Richard Leon Renner, Sr.

The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Friday, August 30, beginning at 10:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM.  Rev. Kenneth Wadlington, chaplain with Hospice of Washington County, will officiate.  Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Babington’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD  21742.
