Mrs. Arlene G. Cohan Greenberg, 95, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday evening, October 18, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living, Hagerstown.  She was the wife of the late Jesse Greenberg, who preceded her in death in March 1995.

Born March 29, 1925, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Max and Beatrice Cohan.

Arlene was a graduate of Hunter College, New York City, and taught elementary school for over 30 years with a passion.  She taught third and fourth grade; and was a special reading teacher.  Some of her students remember her and still send her notes to her.

After retiring, Arlene and Jesse moved to Boynton Beach, Florida, to play golf, retired life, and time with friends.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always going out of her way for her children and grandchildren; and was exceptionally generous to all.  Her grandchildren, whom she loved very much are Seth, Jessica, Rachel, Priscilla and husband Hector, and David; and great grandchildren Daniella and Catalina. She was able to be present for special occasions of theirs and enjoyed their successes.  Additionally, she able to attend the wedding of her grandson Seth and Cindy in California, and most recently her granddaughter Rachel to husband Joseph in Washington, DC.

Besides her grandchildren, Arlene is survived by two children, Jay Greenberg, MD, wife Roberta Greenberg, of Hagerstown, and Howard Greenberg, wife Alex Greenberg, of Edgewater, NJ.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, has is handling the arrangements.  There will not be visiting at the funeral home.  Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

The omission of flowers is requested.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Greenberg’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave, Hagerstown, Maryland  21742.
