Anthony J. “Tony” Verno, 66, of St. Thomas, PA passed away Friday, August 21, 2026 in the Emergency Room of the Chambersburg Hospital. Born May 14, 1960 in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of Camille (Ryczkowski) Verno of Chambersburg and the late Raymond Verno, Jr.
Tony attended James Buchanan High School. He was co-owner and operator of Verno’s Auto Sales, St. Thomas, PA alongside his father for many years. Tony was also employed as a mechanic at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA and at Volvo, Hagerstown, MD.
Tony enjoyed dirt track racing, camping, working on cars, going to demolition derbies, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Beth (Vanpelt) Verno; three children, Tiffany Hassler (Kevin Brown) of Fayetteville, PA, Cruz Hassler (Brian Jackson) of St. Thomas, PA, and AJ Verno (Annmarie Jones) of Chambersburg, PA; four grandchildren, Rylee Hassler, Fiona Verno, Addie Hassler, and Collin Verno; three brothers, Raymond Verno, III (Trudy) of Chambersburg, Gary Verno (Judy) of Waynesboro, PA, and Douglas Verno (Lawanna) of Blairs Mill, PA; and two special nephews Mikey and Chris Verno.
A Celebration of Life will be held form 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 30, 2026 in St. Thomas Ruritan Club, 3705 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
