Norlo Park train rides return

FAYETTEVILLE – The Norlo Park Train is set to roll again, offering free rides to the community as summer begins. Rides return Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 4 p.m., weather permitting, at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way E.

The train, a local favorite, will continue to operate every first and third Saturday through August, providing families and visitors with a unique way to enjoy the park’s scenic landscape.

Norlo Park, once a 143-acre dairy farm owned by the Sollenberger family for more than 130 years, became a public park in 1998 after Guilford Township Supervisors purchased the land. The park’s name, Norlo, honors Norman and Lois Sollenberger, whose legacy continues in the heart of Fayetteville.

Alongside the train rides, visitors can explore historical rail cars on display, including a rare vinegar tank car—one of only three preserved in the United States. The tank car, originally built in 1929 and restored locally, highlights the region’s railroad and agricultural heritage.

Park officials say ongoing community support is vital to maintaining and improving Norlo Park for future generations. As the summer season kicks off, organizers encourage residents to take part in the festivities and enjoy the park’s growing list of attractions.
