HAGERSTOWN – A new wine and liquor store, featuring Maryland wines and spirits, is now open at the Maugansville Exit on I-81, just north of Hagerstown. The facility is located near the Burger King and the Microtel Hotel, at 13721 Oliver Dr. The Class A liquor license for the project was approved by Washington County in October 2023, for beer, wine and liquor sales.
The Maryland Wine House is an attractive and easily seen building, with the Maryland colors on the roof. The retail part of the building is less than 10,000 square feet, and the business has plenty of room for parking.
The business expects to have created more than 40 full-time, year-round jobs when the project is fully operational. The new store’s management team tout the Maryland Wine House as having a very large selection of competitively priced wine, beer and spirits.
According to Jonathan Horowitz, director of Washington County’s Business and Economic Development Department, “This project is a welcome addition to Washington County’s retail community. We are also glad to hear that local Maryland wines and spirits are featured in this new large retail store.”
Merit Builders was the main contractor for the project, and several subcontractors were hired, along with a significant number of vendors and suppliers. The construction teams’ work continued on the project through the winter months, to be ready for this week’s soft opening. An official ribbon cutting is being planned later.
