N. Hagerstown comes up short without top scorer with 63-35 loss in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. – Short-handed North Hagerstown played Thomas Johnson evenly for three quarters, but ran out of gas in the final eight minutes on Wednesday in a 63-55 loss.

The game was tied at 46-all after three quarters, but the Patriots outscored the Hubs 17-9 in the final eight minute to grab the victory.

North played Tuesday without its top two scorers. Brayden Cespedes missed the game, and Joey Dorsey continues to work back from a broken foot he suffered against Williamsport on Jan. 8.

Ja Ron Nicholson topped the Hubs with 16 points and passed out three assists. Michael Bell was the only other North player in double figures with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Trenten Ciucci had nine points.

The Hubs have lost five straight and six of the last eight games after opening the season at 6-0. They are 1-5 since Dorsey’s injury.

Smithsburg 66, Middletown 61

The Leopards bounced back from a tough, grinding loss to Williamsport on Tuesday to take down Middletown.

Jacob Tyler led the Leopards (9-8) with 22 points. James Hare and Jaxon Teson each added 10 points. Hare topped Smithsburg with nine rebounds.
