Monterey Pass needs help with cleanup this weekend

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT—Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not get outdoors and help out a good cause?

Monterey Pass Battlefield Park & Museum is preparing to open for the season and is seeking people to help clean up the park, repair fences and cut and stack wood for living history events.

The park is a 125-acre natural, cultural and historical site that preserves a small portion of Pennsylvania’s second largest Civil War battle.

The history of the area dates back to 1747, when immigrants looking for a new life traveled through the area to Appalachia on the Great Wagon Road.

Seasonal outdoor activities include a playground, pavilion, spring house and the Monterey Peak Trail, a 2-mile loop trail with an overlook.

A workday will be held March 26 at 9 a.m. To volunteer, contact the museum at [email protected] or show up Saturday morning at 14325 Buchanan Trail East. Groups are encouraged to participate.
