Middle School Students visit Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO- Students from James Buchanan Middle School had the opportunity to visit Penn State Mont Alto for a day of hands-on STEM activities. The event was an annual field trip that allowed students to participate in fun and educational activities taught by Penn State faculty. The day was filled with exciting activities such as turning a copper penny into gold, building a 3-way switch, extracting DNA, and having fun with math. The students were able to learn from world-class faculty who helped mold young minds for the day. Penn State Mont Alto loves sharing its campus with local schools and encourages others to visit for a day of hands-on learning in STEM, Allied Health, Business, or other fields. If interested, visitors can call 717-749-4117 to schedule a visit.

Penn State Mont Alto has been expanding its STEM programs in recent years. In 2017, the university expanded its STEM Camp with field trips and more activities, allowing students to visit state-of-the-art research facilities. The STEM Camp provides incoming ninth and 10th graders opportunities to learn about careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on activities. The university has been offering the STEM Camp annually since 2018, and registration is now open for interested students. The cost of the camp is $185, which includes lunch, daily snacks, and transportation to field trips.
