Institute for Retired Persons Schedule Week of April 8

CHAMBERSBURG– The Institute for Retired Persons (IRP) in Chambersburg is set to host a captivating series of lectures and activities tailored to its diverse membership base. This week’s agenda promises a rich array of sessions designed to educate, entertain, and foster social connections among attendees.

Upcoming Bus Trip Vote

This week attendees will have the opportunity to vote in-person on the destination for next semester’s bus trip. The three proposals under consideration are:

  1. George Washington’s Mount Vernon, including a guided tour of the mansion, tour of the gardens, time in the Education Center/Museum, and a 45-minute Potomac River Cruise, with lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn. Estimated price: $150.
  2. Dodona Manor, home of General George Marshall located in Leesburg, VA, and the National Air & Space Museum near Dulles Airport, with lunch on your own at the Air & Space Museum. Estimated price: $95.
  3. Provincial Forts: George Washington’s Office in Winchester, VA, the Ruins of Fort Loudon in Winchester, lunch on your own in downtown Winchester, Fort Frederick near Clear Spring, MD, and Fort Loudon (west of Chambersburg). Estimated price: $90.

If you are interested and might participate in any of these bus trips, please attend and vote. If you cannot attend on either April 9th or 16th, and you plan to participate in next semester’s bus trip, you may submit a vote by email to Joyce Horst at [email protected] by April 16th.

Monday, April 8, 9 a.m. (Zoom):

  • “Living and Thriving with MCSS and MCAS” by Mariann Martin

Tuesday, April 9, 9 a.m. (In-Person):

  • “The Hot Goss & Takes of the 2024 Elections… So Far!” by Dr. Alison Dagnes
  • “Diplomatic, Information, Military, and Economic (DIME) and US Relations” by Lieutenant Colonel Saul Manzanet

Wednesday, April 10:

  • Bus Trip to Cumberland, Maryland (Departs 7 a.m. )

Thursday, April 11, 9 a.m. (In-Person):

  • “Women, Peace and Security: Why Does It Matter?” by Lieutenant Colonel Stacy Moore-Callaway
  • “Women of Gettysburg: Stories of Courage, Compassion and Sacrifice” by Dave Loose

The IRP has 131 enrolled members for this semester, and during the first four weeks, they averaged 37 participants in Zoom lectures and 65 attendees in in-person lectures. The full IRP schedule and synopses are available on the appropriate pages of the IRP website: IRP-online.org.
