Indiana sweeps Shepherd, softball, lacrosse games too

INDIANA, Pa. – Indiana University of Pennsylvania scored in the late innings in each game of a doubleheader on Saturday to claim a 7-2, 8-7 sweep over Shepherd University. 

 The Rams fell to 12-6 on the season despite a 5-for-7 day by infielder Ryan Fluharty with three runs scored. 

IUP broke a 2-2 tin in the sixth inning of the opener and finished the sweep with three runs in the fifth in the nightcap. 

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener when first baseman Nik Rubendall singled to score outfielder Bodie Pullen, who walked. 

IUP tied the game in the third and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. 

The Rams tied the game at 2 in the sixth on a solo homer by Fluharty. 

IUP rallied with five runs in the sixth to put the game away.  

Fluharty went 2-for-3, including the homer, an RBI and one run scored for the Rams. 

Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in third inning of the nightcap, highlighted by RBI doubles Fluharty, Rubendall, and outfielder Ethan Jones. 

IUP tied the game with three in the third, including solo home runs by Ricardo Aponte and Cayden Bender.  

Shepherd bounced back for a 4-3 lead in the fourth when infielder Braylon Conner was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice. 

The Crimson Hawks took a 6-4 lead with three runs in the fifth and added two runs in the sixth. 

Shepherd’s rally fell short in the seventh after scoring runs on Rubendall’s home run. 

Fluharty went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to pace the Rams. 

COLLEGE SOFTBALL 

Shepherd 11, Davis & Elkins 3 

Glenville 5, Shepherd 1  

SALEM, Va. – Brenna Collis went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles on Saturday to lead Shepherd to a win over Davis & Elkins at the MEC Crossover at Salem University. 

The Rams (4-6) dropped the second game against Glenville State, despite a 3-for-3 outing by Boonsboro’s Haylee Hartman. 

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on a two-run double by Collis. 

Davis & Elkins got a run back in the bottom for the first, but Shepherd extended its lead to 4-1 on a pair of unearned runs in the second. 

The Rams built a 6-2 lead and extended it to 8-2 in the fourth with a pair of runs, ignited by Collis’ solo homer. 

The Rams plated two in the sixth to end the game early via the eight-run rule. 

Pitcher Natalee Harvey picked up the win for Shepherd.  

Glenville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first in the second game.  

Shepherd got a run in the fifth when shortstop Sadie Kittoe walked and scored on a single by catcher Madelyn Chambers. 

The Pioneers scored three the seventh to close out the scoring. 

Shepherd pitcher Madelayne Ruffner (1-4) took the loss, going 6.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. 

WOMEN’S LACROSSE 

Bloomsburg 18, Shepherd 6 

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Marykate Sitko scored five goals to lead Bloomsburg (2-4, 1-1 PSAC East) to an 18-6 win over Shepherd on Saturday in the Rams PSAC East conference opener. 

 (1-4, 0-1 PSAC East) in PSAC East women’s lacrosse action at Bloomsburg on Saturday. 

Attacker Grace Meyer led the Rams with a pair of goals. Attacker Rebekah Forney, midfielder Aubrey Harrison, midfielder Grace Lyon and attacker Hadley Robertson each netted a goal.
