HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Potomac Playmakers will close its 99th season this weekend with A.R. Gurney’s comedy “Sylvia.”
Remaining performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, June 12, and 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14, at the Playmakers theater space on Washington Road. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors 65 and older. Tickets are available online and at the door, although advance reservations are recommended for matinees.
The production runs approximately two hours and includes a 15-minute intermission. The show is suitable for most audiences but contains some adult language.
“Sylvia” follows Greg and Kate, a middle-aged couple adjusting to life as empty nesters after moving from the suburbs to a New York City apartment. Their lives are disrupted when Greg brings home a stray dog named Sylvia, portrayed by actress Jess Edwards.
As Greg’s attachment to Sylvia grows, tensions rise between husband and wife in a comedy that explores relationships, loyalty and companionship. The cast also includes Rory Dunn as Greg, Kelly K. Dowling as Kate, Brian McClinton as Tom, Lyndsey Morris as Phyllis and Jade Harper as Leslie.
The show is directed by Susan Kleit, who pitched the production for inclusion in the season because of her personal connection to the story.
The Humane Society of Washington County will be present at performances with information about adoptable pets and its programs.
Potomac Playmakers will open its 100th season in September with the Tony-nominated musical “Come From Away.”
Tickets and additional information are available through Potomac Playmakers.
