WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The program, “Shoes, Textiles and a Whole Lot More” will be presented by Jeff Mace at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Waynesboro Theatre, 75 W. Main St. The free program is sponsored by Waynesboro Industrial Museum in partnership with Main Street Waynesboro and the Waynesboro Theatre.
Mace will share the history and show photos of the textile and smaller manufacturing businesses in Waynesboro.
“Even if you’re not from Waynesboro, come and learn some facts about the industries that helped shape our small town,” said Mace, who has presented several programs about local history for the museum.
Information about former clothing and shoe factories in Waynesboro will be presented. “There were some amazing small businesses in this town,” he added. Mace will offer details about local entrepreneurs and innovators involved in the small businesses, including how they were founded and organized, their products and life span.
They include the Emmert Vice Co., whose products are highly sought after even today; the Decca Disc Co., which produced the earliest versions of a jukebox; and much smaller companies, such as the Waynesboro Lawn Mower Co.
Mace, born and raised in Waynesboro, attended Waynesboro area schools and graduated from Juniata College. He owned the Parlor House Restaurant for many years and now works in real estate. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children and four grandchildren.
