Historic Gettysburg offers free holiday fun all weekend

GETTYSBURG – Main Street Gettysburg, in collaboration with community partners, is set to host the annual Gettysburg Christmas Festival from Friday through Sunday, Dec. 6 to 8. This festive event promises to transform the historic downtown area into a winter wonderland filled with free attractions and activities suitable for families and visitors of all ages.

The festival will kick off on Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., continue on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and conclude on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Throughout these three days, attendees can expect a variety of entertainment options, including:

  • Live reindeer and mechanical rides
  • Bounce houses and holiday-themed games
  • Santa’s Shanty, where children can share their Christmas wishes
  • Face painting stations with festive designs

New attractions this year include a human foosball game, a holiday photo booth, and selfie stations featuring hand-painted backdrops by local artist Marty Mummert.

Local businesses and organizations will also play a significant role in the festival, offering special promotions and hosting various activities throughout the weekend. Notable venues such as the Gettysburg Heritage Center, Shriver House Museum and Children of Gettysburg 1863 Museum will feature unique holiday programming.

To facilitate the festivities, several road closures will be implemented from Friday morning through Sunday evening. The affected areas include:

  • South quadrants of Lincoln Square
  • Baltimore Street from Lincoln Square to High Street
  • Steinwehr Avenue between Queen and Culp Streets
  • Culp Street

The Gettysburg Christmas Festival has become a cherished tradition within the community, attracting visitors from across the region who come to experience the town’s small-town holiday charm.
