HAGERSTOWN, Md. — The Hagerstown Area Religious Council is resuming its monthly meetings after the summer break. The next session will be interactive and will focus on faith, culture and the council’s work with children in Washington County.
HARC’s Interfaith Team will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Unity of Hagerstown, 18313 Lappans Road in Boonsboro. During the meeting, a selection from the “World Changers Club” will be presented.
The World Changers Club was featured during one of the four weeks of HARC’s Lighthouse Summer Enrichment Program at Bester Elementary School. The program introduced children to the values and cultures of four different faith traditions through interactive activities.
At the Sept. 15 meeting, HARC’s Interfaith Team will invite attendees to try some of these activities and learn more about the summer enrichment program.
The meeting will also give attendees a sense of what it’s like to work with children through HARC’s school-based programs, such as the Lighthouse After-School Program.
The Hagerstown Area Religious Council brings together faith community partners in Washington County to meet community needs and work on collaborative projects, regardless of religious differences. The group’s goal is to unite diverse faith partners around the principles of mercy, justice, and love.
Lunch and fellowship will be included at the Sept. 15 event. Unity of Hagerstown will host the meeting and provide the meal. Anyone who wishes can make a free-will offering to help cover the cost of lunch.
HARC asks participants to reply by noon on Friday, Sept. 11, so the organizers can plan the lunch and activities.
HARC meetings are usually held at lunchtime on the third Tuesday of each month, except in July and August. The location rotates among local houses of faith, giving different congregations and organizations a chance to host. Occasionally, meetings are held in the evening.
The Sept. 15 event marks the return to the monthly schedule and gives community members a chance to learn how HARC shares its interfaith collaboration with younger generations through its educational programs.
