CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Maryland man was arrested Wednesday after Pennsylvania State Police alleged he trafficked a 14-year-old girl to central Pennsylvania and sexually assaulted her at a Franklin County hotel.
Troopers identified the suspect as Jeremy Spikes Jr., 27, of Hagerstown, Md. Authorities said Hagerstown police notified Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg at about 12:45 p.m. Aug. 3 that the girl had been reported missing.
According to state police, Spikes took the girl from her home in Maryland and drove her to Franklin County in a blue Honda Accord with a Virginia license plate. Investigators said the assault happened at a hotel in the county.
State police said troopers interviewed witnesses, canvassed neighborhoods and used license plate readers as part of the investigation.
Spikes was charged with trafficking individuals, rape, aggravated indecent assault, interfering with the custody of children, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.
Authorities said Maryland officials arrested Spikes at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. His extradition to Pennsylvania is pending.
