Greencastle Amateur Players to Bring the Magic of Oz to the Stage

GREENCASTLE – The Greencastle Amateur Players are inviting young actors to join them on a journey down the yellow brick road this spring with their upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

Open auditions for the community theater group’s show will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. and Monday, April 29 at 6 p.m. at the Jerome King Playground Bandshell. Children and teens ages 5 through 18 are encouraged to try out, with no previous acting experience necessary.

The classic tale, adapted from the novel by L. Frank Baum, follows the adventures of Dorothy, a young girl swept away from her Kansas home by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. Accompanied by her loyal dog Toto, Dorothy embarks on a journey down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, where she hopes the Wizard of Oz can help her return home. Along the way, she meets the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, who join her quest. Roles are available for a variety of ages and skill levels, from the lead roles of Dorothy, the Wizard, and the three companions, to the supporting characters of the Munchkins, flying monkeys, and Wicked Witch of the West.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to get involved in community theater and learn new skills, whether they’re interested in acting, singing, dancing, or working behind the scenes,”

Rehearsals will be on Tuesday’s and Friday’s from 6-7 p.m. and shows will be held on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13. For more information or to direct any questions, contact Ginger Moore at (717) 552-7609.
