From spring showers to summer storms, looking ahead at weather with the 2026 Almanack

AROUND THE REGION- LocalNews1 has partnered with The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack to bring you a story every Monday taken from current or past editions of the Almanack. First published in 1797, it’s the second oldest almanac in the United States and has been in continuous publication for 230 years and is the only almanac in the United States still published by the founders’ direct descendants.

Spring and Summer are anticipated for their warm weather and sunshine, but they also bring a fair level of precipitation. Whether it is sudden pop-up thunderstorms or a steady rain, farmers have used the Gruber’s Almanack for generations to track water levels for their crop. That tradition continues and here are some predictions from this year’s edition.

“The following information pertains to the forecast for Above, Near or Below Average precipitation for each month.”

“The information in the table below is retrieved from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s climate data page. The average precipitation represents rain and melted down liquid equivalent snow and sleet (for the colder months) for each zone.”

While it is important to know the estimated precipitation levels, it is also important to understand the characteristics of each type of storm. Here is a chart that breaks down the classifications of a storm and the levels of wind and precipitation involved in each.

This is just a small sample of the type of weather information for the region found directly from the pages of the The Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack.LocalNews1 is honored to partner with Gruber’s Hagerstown Town & Country Almanack to bring you the most relevant, timely and informative content about and around Washington and Franklin counties.
