Franklin visitors bureau hosts Salvation Army exhibit

CHAMBERSBURG – Officials of the Franklin County Visitors Bureau invite the public to stop by the 11/30 Visitors Center, 15 S. Main St., to explore the story of the Salvation Army in a display of scrapbooks, photos and artifacts of the local Chambersburg Corp. The display includes the iconic kettle used in holiday fundraising, instruments from the Salvation Army Band and the donut lassies of World War I.

The work of the Salvation Army began in London, England, in 1865 when William Booth and his wife, Catherine, went into the streets to minister to the poor and needy. Today, the Salvation Army continues to preach the gospel and meet human needs where the people are.

The Salvation Army Chambersburg Corp is led by Majors and Pastors Ashley and Chris Mauk. The Chambersburg Corps offers kitchen program, family service program and holds weekly Sunday services – Sunday school at 9 a.m. and worship service at 10:15 a.m.

The Salvation Army Chambersburg Corp invites the public for coffee and donuts on Friday, May 16, 10 a.m. The donuts are inspired by the ladies of the Salvation Army who cooked and served donuts to lift the spirits and energy of the troops fighting in France during October 1917.

The Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit will be displayed through May 19.
