CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Franklin County Democratic Committee is planning a peaceful protest in Mont Alto, a fall fundraiser in Mercersburg and volunteer training sessions in Chambersburg, according to recent social media posts from the organization.
The committee said it held a demonstration in Mercersburg, with participants stationed at all four corners of the town square. In the post, the group expressed support for universal not-for-profit health care, equitable health care and medical research, environmental protections, military members and campaign-finance reform.
The committee encouraged residents to support Democratic candidates including Beth Farnham, Shannon Jackson, Caleb Donahue, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Its next peaceful protest is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, in Mont Alto. Organizers said they will collect personal-care-product donations for Women In Need, an organization that supports women escaping abuse.
The committee also announced its third annual fundraiser, “Raise a Glass to Democracy,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Inn at Historic Lane House in Mercersburg. The event will benefit the Franklin County Democratic Committee. Organizers said guests should RSVP by Sept. 30.
Residents interested in volunteering may attend trainings at the committee’s headquarters, 115 S. Main St. in Chambersburg. The organization said the sessions will provide information about ways residents can help elect Democratic candidates.
