Former company president charged in $1.6 million embezzlement case

CHAMBERSBURG – A preliminary hearing has been set for the former president of the Frank B. Lesher Co., Inc., who has been charged in a case that alleges he embezzled $1.6 million over a 14-year period, Chambersburg police report.

Robert Jacobs, 62, of Chambersburg, allegedly misappropriated his electric company employer’s funds through the years 2009-2023, the charging documents from Chambersburg Police show. He has been charged with theft by deception.

Jacobs was president/corporate secretary for the company, and he was granted signing authority on accounts where he was able to write checks, pay accounts and access credit accounts, the charges show.

Police began their investigation on Dec. 21, 2023, when they were told about Jacobs allegedly writing checks to himself, using business cards for personal use, such as paying for thousands of dollars worth of items at Lowe’s, or bills for his garage or even his cow business.

This led police to look into business documents, which, according to the charges, showed Jacobs had written almost hundreds of thousands of dollars each year since 2010 in checks for himself for personal reasons.

Jacobs is out on unsecured bail set at $150,000. The preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, Dec. 17.
