HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Republican Lacy M. Flook secured another four-year term as Washington County Register of Wills Tuesday, while fellow Republican John McElroy won election as County Treasurer. Neither faced an opponent on the general election ballot.
Register of Wills
First elected in 2022, Flook previously spent more than 20 years working in estate administration, including 10 years in the Frederick County Register of Wills office and a decade working for a private attorney.
The Register of Wills oversees the administration of estates, including probate filings, the recording of wills and collection of applicable inheritance taxes. The office also provides administrative support to the county’s Orphans’ Court.
County Treasurer
McElroy, who has 18 years of experience with the Internal Revenue Service, will succeed Republican Robert M. Breeding as treasurer.
He defeated Seth Wilson in the June Republican primary, receiving 56 percent of the vote. No Democrat entered the general election race.
The county treasurer’s office collects county taxes and handles related financial administration.
McElroy received 33,640 votes, or 96.34%, on Tuesday.
Both positions carry four-year terms.
