CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Chambersburg will host two trout-themed events during the first weekend of May, offering residents and visitors opportunities to fish, enjoy local activities and take part in family-friendly programming.
The 29th Annual Chambersburg Trout Derby will begin Friday, May 1, with check-in and on-site registration from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Trout Derby Check-In Station, 125 W. Washington St. Participants can also pick up event packets during that time. A fish fry dinner, open to the public, will be offered for $20.
The derby continues Saturday, May 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., giving anglers additional opportunities to participate in the long-running community event.
Also taking place that weekend is the Trout Derby and Civil War Weekend at Twin Bridge Campground, scheduled for May 1 through May 3 at 1345 Twin Bridge Road.
The campground event will feature a range of activities for registered campers, including trout fishing competitions for both children and adults, Civil War reenactments and interactive entertainment such as a silent disco, gel blaster arena and hayrides.
Hands-on activities will include making tricorn hats, creating DIY fish bait, crafting tin can lanterns and participating in a starfish puppet project. A fish fillet demonstration is also planned.
Organizers note that the trout derby at Twin Bridge Campground is limited to registered campers, and the campground will not be open to the public for fishing.
Check-in hours for campers are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Prize payouts will conclude by 3 p.m. Sunday.
Both events are expected to draw families and outdoor enthusiasts, combining fishing traditions with seasonal activities and entertainment.
